Satoshi has the main character "type", but that's just how he comes off, like Tom stated before, he isn't really the main character.
He has that "type" because the game tries to make us think he's the main character. But besides the "hero" attitude, he's pretty useless.
I don't even think the game tries to make us think that, other than the Chapter 5 "wrong end" that leads to Book of Shadows.
Oh yeah, that reminds me. 5pb ran a popularity contest, and Ayumi won first place!
They also offered PSP themes for the first five most popular characters. I think Seiko won second place.
Really? I've always seen Satoshi as the "main" protagonist. He's just not the "only" protagonist.
Yeah, I think he didn't really do much to help the plot. Chapter 3 was only "The Search for a Bathroom Stall". Everything he did was because someone else guided him.
I only found him to be the leaning shoulders of Naomi and Yuka.
He found out about many things, but Yoshiki and Ayumi discovered the truth and pretty much everything Satoshi found. They had more interactions with ghosts than anyone in the game. So I couldn't find Satoshi fitting that role. They also seem to have more bad ends as well.
I find Ayumi to fit the main character role more than anyone.
Anyone find Morishige to have no role?
Even Mayu had a role...to a certain extent.

Well, the way I see it, Satoshi is traveling with a girl who is emotionally still a child. He can't do much without risking putting Yuka in danger (well, greater danger than she's already in). He also ends up in a closed space separated from the things that might advance the plot.
If you're talking about not doing much to advance the plot, I'd say Morishige and Mayu fit more in that regard. Mayu, bless her little heart, gets caught in a situation that gets her killed almost as soon as she wakes up in the school and Morishige doesn't really try to find anyone other than Mayu. In fact, the most he does is act creepy.

I agree with Shoot the Way, Ayumi has totally in her to be the main character. She also [spoiler]has the biggest amounts of Bad Ends.[/spoiler]
