would you change your appearance if your significant other asks you?

okay,i was watching this talk show the other day and there was this japanese dude that had a latin girlfriend.well, the story goes that they are in love and everything,right.....so, the thing is that he wanted to take his girlfriend back to japan in order to show her his parents but before that he wanted his g/f to change her appearance to more "oriental" looking,in other words he wants her to have an eyelid operation so that she would look more oriental than occidental...keep in mind that the latin girl was white and blonde haired...so, the question is was his request fair? would you do that if your significant other asks you to change yourself for cultural/racial issues? your thoughts!

No. If my significant other says I'm looking bad, I'll change about it, but in the end, he must love me for myself.

Exactly what I was going to say. If she tried to change me, I'd just stop her. She has to love me for who I am, not for who she wants me to be.

Definitely not. Maybe I could do it if asked for a change of hairstyle or something simple...but...surgery? No thanks.


PS: Even hairstyle would be difficult.

No, as I wouldn't ask my future girlfriend or wife to change her appearance. I definitely wouldn't dare suggest she get surgery or something serious like that. I expect the same consideration on her part.

okay, thanks for your answers so far. but i havent told you the whole story...it happens that this dude is the only son and that he is "supposedly" going to get his parents business and properties once they pass on. so, he wanted to impress them with his girlfriend doing that...but i was thinking what about when they have kids? if the kids look more like her mother side rather than his father's? i think it would be cruel if he also makes his kids to go thru eyelids surgery as well..

but all in all, i'm with most of you that if i'm with someone that that person and her family should accept me as i am

If my family told me I had to be with a specific kind of person to take over the family business or gave me that impression, I would pass on the family business. Love shouldn't be restricted by what those outside of the relationship want.

I think its fine to change yourself in small ways, like hair style, or maybe exercising more (nothing wrong with being in shape!). But asking someone to get surgery is taking it too far.
