man,i'm just playing this game and i'm liking the game very much because it has a heck of turn based mechanic, the environments are pretty, the dialogue its somewhat charming and witty (with all the cliches that we all love) and there's alot of cutscenes from what i can tell...but i dont mind because i'm having a blast with this game...my only gripe is that i'm 8 hrs in to the game and money is hard to come by lol
has anyone played this game before?oddly enough i have the first grandia game and i didnt like it as much as this one :)

Hardcore? You could say that ;)
I'm putting back the game on to give you my level...well it was censored :D. When you finish give me yours ;) I'll remember the number and give it to you. I don'T want you to be competitive XD
It was almost impossible to beat the last boss the way I did (p-retty much as doing the OOT water temple without the blue suit) and few bosses like Omega...you'll see :)
Anyone finished that game and could give me their level? Maybe I wasn't low level at all

I think Grandia II is the best one. I didn't like the story/characters in Grandia III but the combat is so good that I kept playing it till the end anyway.

The plane was the best part. I flew for 30 minutes one day, only for fun :)

Want it, but waiting to find it for a good price someday. Although i've been tempted to get it brand new for $29.99, one of my local walmarts has had it for months.

I may have one soon XD
I buy and seel a lot to get some great games. I'm about to spend 500$ on a huge lot with a contact of mine I hope he'll put 200$ on the lot. Then we will split evenly
Some things like the entier collection (PS2) of xenosaga, suikoden, shadow hearts, .hack, and much more
I enjoyed Grandia III for the first couple hours...but after a specific point in the game, it became far worse, battle system aside. The balance in fights became pretty annoying too, as you mostly dominate everything but from time to time, something that can easily obliterate you walks along. Not that I mind a challenge, but I like a game's difficulty to be consistent. The only Grandia I really liked was Xtreme though (I'm in the very small minority there).

The only thing I know about Grandia III is that it has one of the best battle themes ever.

The game started out extremely promising, but around the time that Miranda and Alfonso left I think the game started going down hill. Grandia II is without a doubt my favorite Grandia.

Agreed, Grandia II is my favorite as well, but the original is not far behind it.
On the topic of Grandia, I'm always shocked to see how few people know about Grandia Xtreme.

I'm usually not a big fan of dungeon crawlers, but I found Grandia Xtreme to be a pretty good game. The characters and story were mediocre, but the battle system was great and the music was amazing...Then again, anything Noriyuki Iwadare composes is almost always guaranteed to be good. :)

I enjoyed Grandia III thoroughly from beginning to end so I can't really say myself perrandy.
This thread seriously has be wanting to go back and play Grandia II... the Melfice storyline was so epic back when this game first came out. The music brings back memories!

I suppose I should be looking for deals on these games. Was Xtreme any good?

I really Xtreme but it's a lot different than the numbered series in that you have to grind a lot more and it's very dungeon crawling centric. Grandia -Grandia III are very story centric with minimal grinding required, though III has the most grinding of the numbered entries in my experience because of the occasional difficulty spike.
I would focus on getting the numbered games first before Xtreme, but a word of warning that Xtreme is much more rare than the other games in the series. I'm fairly certain it got a smaller print run, so you'll just encounter fewer copies.
As a whole, I feel the entire Grandia series is criminally overlooked and it makes me sad to think that we may never get another with the series creator (Takeshi Miyaji) just recently passing away.
Edit: Found some battle tunes for the different entries in the series. :)

I loooove all the music you've posted, Lumina. The Grandia games really do have great songs. I think Grandia II and Xtreme have the best soundtracks out of the series. :)

Grandia is one of my favorite game series. I absolutely love I & II, and thoroughly enjoyed III and Xtreme as well. Noriyuki Iwadare has made absolutely phenomenal music for all of the games, and I was extremely saddened to hear about Takeshi Miyaji's recent passing.
Gah, now I want to go back and play through the series again... Damn thread... :p

Odds are if you don't mind it at this point, it won't really bother you too much from then on. I thought both characters were far superior to their replacements. That and the inconsistent difficulty really hurt the game in my mind.

I looked in the Grandia III guidebook, looks like the final boss is doable at level 50+, I did it level 37 O_o

Not a good as Grandia 1 and 2 but not a total disaster like Lunar: Dragon Song was. Unfortunately the creator of Grandia and one of the key members of the Lunar team passed away recently so we'll most likely never see a Lunar 3 or a Grandia 4 that'll recapture the magic of Lunar 1&2 and Grandia 1&2 :( Shame too as these are my top two favorite JRPG series.

well, i'm now on lvl 25 at the cave that leads me to the "normal" world. i would say this though.this game can be difficult at times because the monsters would speed up around the circle thingy >_>
anyways, it seems that there are at least one guardian left that i need to see in order to know the "truth"...lastly, the cutscenes are freaking long
lastly, the cutscenes are freaking long
I don't mind long cutscenes when they're good, but when you aren't engrossed in the story, it's just another roadblock. At least the movies aren't unskippable.

yeah and up up up here i go! XD
actually, i want to earn mo' money since the weapons and armor and the like are quite expensive.plus,it seems that the monsters in this cave give ya
pretty good expirience as well....:p
Grandia 3 started off wonderfully. It almost felt like a Miyazaki movie, but about halfway through the game I kind of lost interest in it. Reading this thread makes me want to go back and play it again though.
From what I remember the combat was great. But I still have Grandia 2 in my backlog too... decisions decisions.

well, just beated the game at level 50.but before beating the crap of the top boss i died like 4 times haha
all in all, the game is solid...too bad that it has zero replayability :0
too bad that it has zero replayability :0
True that. JRPGs tend to be pretty hampered when it comes to replayability, but there's virtually no reason to jump back on this train...

You actually died 4 times at level 50? *humble mode off* Man I'm too awsome with my level 37 XD *humble mode on*
What was your strategy?
Some RPG are reaaaaaaally replayable : Baten Kaitos Origins *__*, Star Ocean 3, kingdom hearts 1 and 2, Tales of the abyss, Legendia, Vesperia, Grandia 2, Odin Sphere, those are a few games I did twice at least, as for KH 1 and 2 it's horrible maybe 9 times or more
Lumina
08-16-2011, 12:33 PM
Any game is replayable really, it just depends on how much you enjoyed it ths first time around. Multiple story paths and endings are just a bonus.
I personally think the SO3 example you gave is a little less playable than some of the others though, because once you learn of the major story twist it's just not quite the same afterward.

spirit in the fourth at the beginning of the fight.big mistake of mine!
so i decided to beat the stupid boss by using magic and extra attacks on it till it was like 47000 and after that i used the time-freezing spirit and beated the crap outta him.in any case, you are just an awesome player if you could beat this game at lvl 37. you definately have bragging rights :)
conurebleu
08-17-2011, 02:48 AM
How could you use two Spirits in the same fight? I never could, maybe I just couldn't last long enough XD
Here's my ''Strategy'' :
Everybody got a gem to revive them once in case of death.
First thing important : I could NEVER survive the trap if the four character where in it (don'T remember that special attack) (it was like.. 200 300 400 400 X 10 times -_- Who could survive that?! even level 50 c'mon!)
Girly : heaven's Gate (maxed out)
All others : Galactic Bang to oblivion (maxed out)
Used the time-freezing at the end, because it was clearly IMPOSSIBLE if used at the beginning, since that Darkness attack could kill easily all my party.
It was a fun challenge for sure, I never used that much item in a fight
