I've played a good chunk of CLANNAD, but haven't finished it since it is gigantic, and I've had to start over. :'( I'll get back to it someday. I also bought Higurashi from MangaGamer, but I haven't started it.
The only one I've actually finished is G-Senjou no Maou, or Devil on G-String. It's a pretty sweet battle of wits VN where you take on the role of the guy who's been adopted by a yakuza boss, and you essentially are part of the yakuza. It has the usual wacky japanese school antics, but the real meat is trying to stop and outsmart "Maou". It is an eroge, so there are some H-scenes here and there, but if you only head for the Haru end (the main ending), you miss most of them entirely if that really isn't your thing.
But yeah, would highly recommend it.

I just got Demonbane the other day and have been playing it quite a bit. I was expecting something Lovecraftian but it's really a hot-blooded super robot anime -- er, visual novel. The story's pretty good and it has a lot of humor, also there are very few porn scenes so far which maybe a good or bad thing depending on where you stand on the sliding scale of prudishness versus pervyness.

I read tons :D
Tsukihime, Fate stay/night, ever17, remember17, Ef a fairy tale of two, Kanon, most of umineko, chaos;head, one to the radiant season, sharin no kuni, and g-senjou maou as well. (I might've missed some)
My favorites are ever17 and sharin no kuni, just both really good stories :D

well, where do i get tsukihime legally?oh and i dont mind the hentai scenes at all. i didnt mention in the op but i should be receiving amorous professor cherry in a couple of days.from what i read thats a "hard" eroge without a good story it seems...but yeah i want something with more story to it. like i said i liked the kira kira demo and i'm thinking of buying the cheapest ver from mangagamer but the thing about buying from them is most of their titles are a tad expensive, the same goes for robert's anime cornerstore and also i have heard of right stuff but they say that despite of right stuff beign cheap and all.their shipments arent always on time.plus, they need to call you home in order to verify if your a minor or not which i dont mind since i'm an adult but at the same time i'd like some privacy because i'm shy and just the thought that someone knows that i'm to this stuff is just embarrassing haha

Perrandy, I just bought Demonbane off of Right Stuf, I payed $23 plus shipping, when the MSRP is $39.99, which is almost half price. Also, I'm not sure where you heard that they need to call your house, they definitely didn't call me and they don't even have my phone number on file. Also, you should be more proud of your pervyness. Pervyness is a man's soul, or so I'm told.

I just bought Demonbane so i'm just waiting in the mail for that. I saw the anime years ago when it was airing and didn't particularly like it but whateaver the art is good and I like giant robots. I have also gained new appreciation for little girls since then (lol). I've played hardly any VNs but I'm interested in them. I've played Katawa Shoujo act 1 and Brass Restoration. Looking at the Katawa Shoujo official blog thing made me want to play the full version less after reading about all the ads they are putting in the game unless you buy some subscription model thing and stuff. blergh.

I personally think they fall under "adventure games" more than "visual novels," but some people classify it as a "visual novel with a logic game attached," or something, simply because of the "talking heads."
If that's the case, then Phantasy Star Portable 2 is a "visual novel with an action RPG attached," because of the aforementioned "talking heads."
Dynasty Warriors PSP vol. 1 and 2 are "visual novels with hack-and-slash games attached," then, because "talking heads" are featured.
Mass Effect is a "visual novel with a third-person shooter RPG attached" because--you guessed it, talking heads (quite literally, too).
And so on, and so forth.

I usually play a lot of VN in Summer. I'm with Muv-Luv Alternative right now but I don't have the computer that I have the game, so I have to wait. I like Otomate too, but it's hard that I like one because sometimes they make characters looks very gay. Now I want to get Demonbane, but I'll buy it next year.

hey SolidusSnake I have a couple Demonbane questions. does the extra gallery stuff get unlocked by beating the game once? I thought it might fill up as you go but it seems like it doesn't. also, one of the cutscenes, the anime one when they are getting in demonbane (its showed more than once) it has a gray bar on the bottom of the screen under the subtitles. I'm wondering if it's some kind of error so I'm just asking if that happens for you too. Last thing is, I'm not very used to playing games on my pc so I'm not quite sure where the save data goes. It doesn't seem to be inside the demonbane folder but I might just not know what it's called. That one is more just curiousity though it's not a big deal if i don't know. thanks
SolidusSnake
07-22-2011, 06:38 PM
Hey bro. You unlock the gallery stuff after you beat the game, so if there's any scene you know you'll want to go back to you might wanna make a separate save file. As for the bar... well maybe Demonbane is just glitchy. I had a bright green bar under some of my movies... I mean freaking Xbox 360 case bright vomit green. Just one of those things I guess. Now as for your saves... even for a pc gamer they may be a BACONBACONBACONBACONBACON to find. See, they're saved in the appdata folder. Go to C:\User\yourusername\appdata\roaming\nitroplus\dem onbane usa\version2.00 and you'll find the save files. If you're using Vista you might have to type C:\user\yourname\appdata to get into the folder, cuz it may not show up if you're exploring it normally. Hope this helps, and by all means enjoy the game.

Ya I was pretty surprised by the goofiness at first. I heard that it was inspired by HP Lovecraft, so it was kind of jarring when the humor and hot blooded robot action were far more prominent than soul-crushing horror. It's a bit of a hodge podge but in a good way. :)

Ah that's hard to say... I liked most of the girls in the game but I would have to say Al. She was really cute and it's just awesome that the necromonicon can be my waifu. Ruri was hot but she was a little too arrogant for my tastes. I also liked Elsa, too bad she didn't get a route. I have to say that I only completed Al's route so far. The ending I got was so satisfying and so perfect that I didn't want to ruin it by seeing any others! I'll probably play the other routes later though.
I'm also really looking forward to more Nitro+ stuff, Saya no Uta seems like my kinda thing (I'm crazy like that), so I hope JAST hurries it up with their releases.
@perrandy: lol dude, just keep playing the game... also you really should have put a spoiler alert when you posted that like Tiamat said >_<

Hmm...I just finished reading the whole of Umineko no Naku Koro ni, and despite the ending getting a lot of criticism, I thoroughly enjoyed it and would instantly recommend it to any fan of the genre.
If you can read & speak Japanese, I'd recommend the PS3 version, Majo to Suiri no Rondo, as it's vastly superior to the old NScripter novel, but it's a bit pricey at about $100.
All the steps to start playing the game in English can be found at http://witch-hunt.com/
Another one I can recommend is School Days, which is essentially a long, animated movie with player interaction, though I can't say I care for the two sequels it had. It's meant to be coming out in english this year.

08-18-2011, 02:16 PM
Haha about the same as me. Al was my favorite, thought Ruri was the hottest, and really want an Elsa route lol. The way the 3 main routes are done though, each of them fills in some gaps and explains some things you encounter in the other routes so its cool. Al and Ruri's are more similar than Leica's though imo. It's weird how almost all the choices are in the first half of the game, and after the route is selected there is only 1-3 choices left for the rest of the game.
which ending did you get for al? there are two good endings depending on your last choice
SolidusSnake

*(spoilers)*
I got the epically un-Lovecraftian ending where you wander through time and space with Al as a hero of justic. Awesome !
I'm pretty curious about the other routes, especially Leica's, since it doesn't seem like she has nearly a high enough power level to deal with Cthulhu and the other great old ones... I am pretty curious about her backstory but it would kinda leave a bad aftertaste helping with her issues while Cthulhu rapes all of time and space, though I'm sure the writers come up with a way to make it all work out in the end.
Tiamat
08-19-2011, 11:56 PM
That was the first ending I got too, and also my favorite. It's just straight up badass. I used white text for spoilers below but they are very minor.
the 3 main routes:
Al route - 2 good endings, 1 bad ending. bad ending is f'ed up and you really have to make purposely stupid choices to get it.
to get it you must spoiler Not have sex with Al when given the choice near the end of the game spoiler
Ruri route - 2 endings, 1 game over type ending
Leica route - 1 ending
Leica's route is very interesting and different. I assume you have a vague idea what it will focus on as long as you figured out what her "secret" is (imo it is really obvious) even if you've only done one ending. Namely.... spoiler It focuses on metatron, sandalphon, and vespasiaus a lot spoiler
SolidusSnake
08-21-2011, 03:48 AM
Yeah I figured out Leica's "secret," pretty early on, they really weren't subtle about it. ;) I'll probably pick her up next since I'm really curious about all the business of the Moon Child project or whatever, also I have a thing for sexy nuns.
I've been thinking about picking up Higurashi now since it's only 20 bux on Jlist for the american version. I really liked the TV series.

Does is contain a lot of sex scenes? I'm not a prude or anything, it's just that I don't like how sex scenes (which is more porn than anything else) are presented in VNs.
I'm looking forward to the day when I'll be able to play Chaos; Head and Steins; Gate in English which Nitroplus has become synonymous with:)

I haven't played many VNs so take my assessment with a grain of salt. I'd say it has a low/moderate number of sex scenes but usually if it does have a sex scene it is LONG. It doesn't feel out of place with the rest of the game or anything though. There's lots of girls in tight clothing and flashy costumes. Basically though, just by you asking that question I'm going to assume it has too many and it would bother you.
Adrian-kun
08-22-2011, 07:14 AM
Thanks for the reply! I do like my VNs, but it's very hard to find those that don't contain sex scenes. Higurashi is my favourite VN at the moment. I strongly recommend that you try it, if you haven't already. It's split into episodes making it easier to follow and to take a break whenever you're tired. There is some innuendo, but that's pretty much it. This is a horror VN after all.

Ennea isn't shota though cause shes a girl (I don't like her much myself). Apparently the lolicon content doesn't bother you enough not to play it though. It's not like it is any big surprise that the game has loli content when the main girl is loli.

Really? I don't see why it would be that shocking. Al and Ennea don't look any younger than many "petite" girls that I've seen... especially Asians, who tend to keep a youthful appearance even into their early 30s. It's your life though, and if you want to miss out on good games because of some absurd fantasy that Cris Hansen is going to fly into your window on his rocket pack because you played a game with drawings of females that don't look like old hags, then it's your own loss as well.

and yes the drawing style also turns me off.the shapes and faces looks seriously disproportionate to me compared to other styles
also, i dont feel paranoid about chris hansen or any of that stuff because i dont watch illegal stuff.but like i said i like my women to look grown up.as for japanese women looking younger even in their 30's thats pretty nice but they are flesh and bone women not drawings that could be easily mistaken as child pron.do you get what i'm saying?

I think it's fair (and obvious naturally :) ) to state that everyone has personal preferences. Myself, I would have enjoyed Demonbane more without any eroge content, but I wouldn't extrapolate from that, that I found the content morally objectionable. It just doesn't happen to be my kind of thing, and I also thought that the story and fighting were interesting enough on their own.

I think it should be easy to figure out why I'm being "extreme," since your opinion that the Demonbane characters look like children carries the assumption that anyone who enjoyed the art and character design is some kind of pedo who likes "drawings that could be easily mistaken as child pron." Do YOU get what I'm saying? Like I said, it's your life, though. I don't think the any characters in the game looked anything remotely like middle schoolers, except for the orphans maybe, but that's just me. Honestly, anime characters in general tend to look vaguely human at the most, though I'm not sure if that makes it more or less creepy to fap to them.

I do not usually play visual novels but I did just play the 1st episode of Higurashi: When They Cry on the iPhone. It was available for free a year ago so I downloaded it but soon forgot about it. Because of Halloween coming up I decided to give it a shot and it was really good. I have already purchased the first 4 episode pack (http://www.mangagamer.com/allages/Titles/Details/DB2324F5-8829-455B-B75B-93C14A560794/higurashi-when-they-cry) for the PC and I can't wait to play the rest. I also played Nine Hours, Nine Person, Nine Doors for the DS, which was also brilliant.
People tell me that Steins;Gate is great so I'm looking forward to the completion of the fan translation (http://vn.shourai.net/) and my brother tells me that Remember11 (http://tlwiki.tsukuru.info/index.php?title=Remember11) is also really good.

Both my brother and I played Ever17. I only played about half of it but my brother finished it and both of us didn't really enjoy it. Ever17 is part of the Infinity Series of visual novel developed by KID (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KID) and written by 999 director, Kotaro Uchikoshi (expect the latest entry code_18). I wanted to play the series because I really enjoyed 999 and at the time Ever17 was the only game available in English. The game was pretty boring. At first I thought the game was just a slow starter and would eventually pick up but from what my brother has told me it doesn't. I may replay Ever17 someday just so I can say I've finished it but Remember11 looks like a much better game so I'll probable play that first. Fans of the Infinity series have told me the best entry in the franchise is 12Riven (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/12Riven) which was the last game written by Kotaro Uchikoshi before KID ran out of business. 12Riven is being translated (http://tlwiki.tsukuru.info/index.php?title=12Riven) by the same group that translated Remember11 but it looks like it won't be done for a very long time.

It's been a long while since I played it, but I also found Ever17 a bit boring to be honest. It was vaguely mysterious and spooky, but the story's actually quite straightforward and moves at a very slow pace. Specifically, I remember many hours just hanging around on the abandoned theme park with nothing much happening. I tend to be quite fanatical about finishing every game I start, but I suspect many people would give up after the first few hours when they realise that the status quo is just going to be maintained for ages.

Well I cleared the last route in Yume Miru Kusuri yesterday. Basically all the girls in this game have some kind of phychological issue, with bullying and drug abuse being important to the plot. There are 3 main routes and a girl on the side who seems like she should have a route but doesn't. The one who doesn't have a route is the only one without any issues, but it seems like there should be a route for her because it would be able to deal more with the issues that the main character has imo.
Music and art is good (girls are mostly loli looking) though personally I don't find the art that good for ero scenes. There are quite a lot of them too but I feel many of them don't contribute much and could be cut easily. There are a couple scenes I found somewhat disturbing (kinda morbid) but nothing too bad. I liked it a lot though.

This is how I started playing Higurashi. I had heard from siliconera that the first episode had been released for free no less so I jumped at the chance. In a sea of eroge visual novels, Higurashi was simply amazing. It still is, but I haven't read it in a while. I really do need to catch up on my chapters.

The only two visual novels I've finished are True Remembrance and Umineko (eps 1-7). I really liked True Remembrance and was what got me into VNs. I then read Umineko on and off for about a few months. It was an experience and I'm waiting for the last episode to get fully translate. Though at this rate, it's going to take a miracle for that to happen.
Otherwise, I've been meaning to get through Higurashi, Fate/stay night, Disgaea Infinite, and 999.

Sora is sad because of the critics to Ever17
Sora will begin "Universe Reset" process.

Now seriously. Ever17 is indeed slow paced, but in the True Route, every little thing you did starts to join together to form some serious plot twist in all of the game. So although its slow, it does have a reason. But it is really important to get every good ending, as you can only do the Coco Route (True Ending) after completing every heroine's "good" ending. Takeshi's good endings are specially good I think, and the true route is really awesome (it does have some flaws, but it is still very good).
Everything has a reason in the game, and you really are clouded until you get to a certain point on Coco's route when you really begin to understand everything. The plot twists in such ways, that is really impossible to actually describe the game, because EVERYTHING is spoiler.
Its slow, sure, but at the end of the day, if you complete every ending, I think its worth it.
Its not the best VN out there, but is definitely very good, even though the translation wasn't very good.

I really don't care if a game is slow. I really liked Higurashi and nothing really happens until about half way through the episode. I guess I could replay Ever17 and try to get every ending but my brother has told me about many of the plot twists in Ever17 and it sounds like a beta version of 999, which is directed by the writer of Ever17. 999 is also interesting in the first 5 seconds, the translation is better, and I feel that the characters are far more interesting. I don't care if other people like Ever17 but it is personal not my cup of tea.

I haven't had the pleasure of playing 999 yet (but be sure I will play it eventually), but from what I've read and what people have told me, 999 is more like Remember11 than Ever17 (both from the same company). Also, I've seen lots of comparisons between 999 and Ever17, and there is a big divergence of opinions. Many people prefer 999, but many other prefer Ever17, but I must add that most of them like both games.
I do know that 999 is not a pure VN, while Ever17 is a pure VN. Other thing is, that general opinion is that Ever17's ending is "waaay better" than 999's. Again, I haven't played 999, so I cannot say for personal experience.
Now, I don't know how much your brother has told you, but spoiling Ever17 is something that may really affect (on a negative way) your reading experience. Ever17 has some ver slow moments (sometimes even boring), but always with the plan of building for the grand finale. I know of MANY things I could tell someone to spoil the game, and really ruin the "surprise" element (I suppose I could call it that way) of the VN.
But again, I will tell you something. If your brother played every route on Ever17 and disliked it, he is honestly the first person I've known who completed de VN and didn't like it. I've known some fanboys who think it is the best VN ever made and others who think it "it was pretty good", but the overall opinion is that is a very good VN.
Of course, it al goes down to personal taste in the end, but I believe there is a good chance you'll like it at the end of the day.
That being said, my opinion is that is veeery good, definitely worth playing, but certainly not the best VN out there and probably not even the best of the "Infinity" series (Remember11 was really good also and I'm still waiting for a patch to be completed for Never7)

Haven't played it but it should be better in its own genre. Of course, don't expect a great story there. It is definitely inferior to Bible Black (same creators), but if you liked Bible Black, you'll probably like this one (this is according to some friends).
Now, if you ask for my personal opinion, it really doesn't suit my taste.
With that being said, I'm currently highly expecting Steins;Gate. The translators said they planned on having the patch finished by mid-November...so it should be almost time.

No translation is illegal really. What is illegal is downloading the VN. But using an english patch on your VN isn't illegal. It would be if you try making profit out of it.
And Discipline should have less of that satanism, but you will find...lets say...unorthodox things...

I saw the anime first and people would be like "well in the VN this happens" etc. all the time and it was hard to avoid if people were talking about the anime at all. It is literally the most popular VN ever...at least outside Japan (I don't know in Japan).
And yeah, most of the people played it pirated. I also think it should be released. If you're planning to make money with VN, then its the best choice out there. Sure, people will still play it pirated, but at an affordable price, maybe some people will pay for it.

You should learn to control your spoilerism (?)
And no, I didn't noticed you mentioned it before...I must've been with something else on my mind.
Though, even though I want to play Eien no Aselia, I don't know when will that be, as I'm really expecting Steins;Gate, and I had plans to read Kara no Shoujo afterwards.

I'll be picking up Aselia, hands down. Eroge are fine, but there's a whole other sphere of otome games and all-ages titles that JAST tosses to the wayside and nobody else pays any mind to. Since they're "looking into" Starry Sky, I'm hoping that good sales for Aselia and Hakuoki will turn that into a license. >w<
I'll be picking it up after Corpse Party [and possibly Fishing Resort]. Let's go, visual novels~!

Someone put a link a few pages before.

11-12-2011, 09:15 PM
I pre-ordered it from JLIST a while ago. I'm not gonna link them here though just go search for "jlist" in google and you'll find them
The disk instals the game along with a walkthrough (which has spoilers so I'm not gonna look at it) and map (which also comes inside the case as a physical insert). The disk also has a lot of promo vids for other JAST USA games (mostly ones that are already out) but these aren't installed with the game or anything. Don't have to have the disk in your computer once it's installed (unlike a fossil or two I've played before lol).
edit:
nice typos - "her is head hung"
"it feel like"
finding 2 so fast within 5 mins of each other (I've barely started) is kinda making me think they didn't proofread it enough lol. I can get the meaning but its kinda sloppy to have typos like this. hopefully doesn't keep happening
I gotta say though the first set of choices you get....>>>it took me a few minutes to decide what to pick for the 3rd question kotori asks. I was initially leaning toward saving my wife but thought about it more and decided I'd probably save my daugher. I don't have a wife or a daughter irl but I think that's what I would do...one of those things you could never know for sure unless it happened though
got through the prologue, like it so far, time to sleep...
edit again:
The battle system is pretty cool =D I like the maid chick but I want to smack the main guy's sister in the back of the head lol. I took a look at the walkthrough that comes with it and though it does have spoilers i just skimmed over to the descriptions of "mind" and "love" levels and I'm glad I did cause it has some good explanations.

man, this is the most devious eroge that i have ever played.what i can say? this game is just perverted to the max.the female villain is a total
b!tch and the main character is a wimp and somewhat gay too. because of the things that he allows the other people to do to him.wow i am actually glad that i'm not playing bible black because i know that that game is way worse in sexual content than discipline...
needless to say that there are alot of sex scenes on this game but what disturbs me even more is the type of intercouse that you see in this..sick sick sh!t all around and pun intended D:

still doing Eien no Aselia, about 10 hours in. lots of battles now, the battle system is really good and strategic. and this is not an eroge so you can even show this one to your friends without them thinking you're some kinda super pervert! =D so go buy it...

yes. I've bought a download edition before (for Yume Miru Kusuri) and everything was good. if you don't care about having a physical case/disk it's not a bad option. you'll certainly get it more quickly than if you order the physical copy shipped to you

I beat Eien no Aselia (1 route anyway, went with Esperia). Game is roughly 50-60 hours long for a first play. After you beat it you can do a newgame+ with an optional hard mode. It has a good fantasy plot with generally likable characters. The sub spirits (playable characters with no route) get more cutscene time than I expected (especially since if they die it's permanent) but they have fun personalities. Wish the main guy's sister would get hit by a truck though, she's like the ultimate useless damsel in distress character.
The artwork is something you can decide if you like or not yourself by checking out the official site, but I would note that the CGs are done by multiple artists. I'd prefer if the art was by the same artist for all the CGs but I'm sure there's a reason it's not. Music is kinda a mixed bag. It's generally good but I don't like that there are very few map/battle musics. All in all though, very good game with high replay value, though you'd have to be pretty dedicated to get all the endings since this is a VN with gameplay and it is long.

Hmmm odd. Oh well it will be worth the wait if you like strategy RPGs and VNs. I'm on my 2nd play on hard mode now and I am liking the battles more now that I know the ctrl key speeds things up, slow speed was my only complaint about the combat but with that solved I am just loving it. pros of the VN: art direction is beautiful, translation seems to be spot on,lotsa of naughty scenes, music is pretty good as well
cons: some voice overs seem grating (specially an elf character),there's some incest and furry-lolicon in there as well.also, vn seems to be rather short despite of its many "hentai" scenes

Only now I realized. Shouldn't this thread be in the Video Games section?
It depends on if you consider VNs to be video games or not. There's also a lot of variety within VNs themselves. Some don't even have any route selections or anything and it's just a single path to a single ending with no interaction beyond clicking to advance the text. Then there's others like Aselia which have a lot of gameplay and are more like regular RPGs in a lot of ways. So you might say that some VNs are games and some are not.

The young squire, young traveling swordsman, or some rather likable peasant you can relate too and then becomes a hero for some reason or another.i hear ya and thats what i'm looking for i might try google to see if there's something like that out there.to be honest i like "nukige" aka eroges with little story but i also like eroges that have a good story.now, that i think about it i would like to play some yuri too XD

yeah i might try an eroge/horror visual novel for a change.the thing is that mangamer is pretty expensive on their visual novels rather than lets say...rightstuff also i have been noticing that the selection of rightstuff is getting rather old.i want to play/read/see a visual novel with better graphics and more...ahem.."creativity" if you catch my drift
anyways, any recommendations for a fantasy setting type of visual novel? I'm very attracted to that kind of thing.you know chivalry and all that j.a.z.z lol
One of the best horror visual novels out there is Higurashi. And it's pretty cheap. I suggest you try it if you haven't by now. There is also a trial version on the site:

As for a fantasy based VN there is Aselia the Eternal. It's Jast USA's first all-ages title. It's not a 100% VN as it contains RPG elements in the form of strategic battles that have to be played out from time to time, but it's really good from what I have read. I'm thinking about playing it myself, although Deardrops is on my plate right now:)

Oh, I am into the genre. :3 I have not played all that many, and it seems like most are made in Japan, and stay in Japan... but still. :3 I hope for moe to be released. X3 Preferably light hearted romantic ones. If it counts, my favourite is probably the first Phoenix Wright game, which is the only one in the series I have played. 999 and Professor Layton and the Curious Village are definitely runners up. :3 I bought Hakuoki, but I still need to play it.

I intend to. :3 I have made that, more or less, my gaming goal for this year. I am going to pick up 2 and 3 today. No cases or manuals... but I am getting them for cheap, so I do not mind. :3 It is playing the games that is important, no? I hope I can at least find covers for them to print out... I tried to find one for Contact and couldn't.

I finished Narcissu today. I feel rather depressed at what happened to them but at least they had she had her last wish granted.
Rain with no end...
waves of the past...
a snow covered life...
ended in joy...
a flower in bloom...
a light that brings hope...
born in the eyes of its protector...
Narcissu.

Has MG got any better at their localization? Last time I checked their English was pretty rubbish. Sure that might not matter that much in voice acted tittles but something like Higurashi - good translation is a must.
Ever17 was my first VN. Kinda broke all my prejudices on such games that time, and there is no turning back now. I can't really say much about it and not to praise it too much, since my feelings that time were just like "what the fk? what is this? this is awesome!!" probably for same reason I find ToS the best Tales of games since it was my very first game on series.

President is freaking awesome lol. Boyfriend, who isn't a big visual novel player and wanted this for his collection, wound up full-clearing every route after like, a week and a half. So that should be a testament to how good it is, even for non-genre fans. ^^ It's really funny, and has a bunch of jokes, references, and parodies and whatnot. It also does have some warm-and-fuzzy moments. It's quite good.

Played Utawarerumono some time ago. I did like it but I found the SRPG elemenet "a bit" too difficult. I think I had to play every damn stage over twenty times before I beat it lol.
And the story is told a lot better (except those random ero scenes - luckily there aren't that many) in VN than it was done in anime. The anime was pure rubbish and had no depth at all :(

but thats pretty typical when it comes to anime.
At least most of the animes ive seen have some sort of plotholes, some more than others.

Totally depends on how the RPG stuff is done there. I liked Utawarerumono RPG elements even though the battles were so insanely difficult. At least it was challenging lol. It is better to be too difficult than way too easy.

The anime just made so many things in so damn stupid way.
SPOILERS FOR UTAWARERUMONO ANIME&VN
For example, Hakuoro. In game, he is kind of mysterious since he was so war intelligent. In anime, he is more like braindead idiot who acts on a whim.
Example: In game he plots the night ambush attack to the fort. Kill guards silently and open the gate so others can rush in.
And what does he do in anime? They charge OUTSIDE the fort with screaming RAAHH or something. Just what the hell? What is the point of whole plot if you going to let the enemy know "hey we are comming" when you are in totally disadvantageous situation (outside). Yeah.. Villagers without no real equipment can take a fort that way..

Hahaha, I gave him hell about that. XP Ironically though, he didn't intend to play it at all. The only reason he opened it is because -I- wanted to play lol. ;p Ironically, it wasn't the H-scenes he discussed, he wouldn't stop talking about how "adorable" Ell and Putina were xD For days.
Also, Aselia is pretty good thus far. It's nice that it doesn't have any shoehorned-in H scenes [I always thought the art was pretty weird in 'em anyway] However, the SRPG segments take some getting used to. Stuff is all unclear at points and it took me some time to finish the first mission because of it. However, that may have also been a personal issue stemming from the fact that I play very few SRPGs, so take my opinion with a grain of salt.
Yumina looks great, though! Personally, I'm STILL waiting on Saya no Uta, and I'm not ready to plop down any more money 'til I get the game I've been waiting like half a year for, lol... :P

You can use jlist. They have a paypal option, but it's only for non-adult products which is great since Aselia is all-ages:

Right now, I'm interested in Phantom of Inferno, a remake for the Xbox 360. It's set to be released this October on the 25th. Have you played the original PC version? It was translated into English and there is even an anime.
