Everybody was super excited about this game, but how many of us were willing to put our money where our keyboard is?
How is capitalism treating you guys? Are you stinking rich or what?:)

Can't give out numbers, unfortunately. We're certainly not stinking rich, though, I can tell you that much -- but we weren't expecting to be, either. In the realm of niche video games, "stinking rich" is rarely ever an option. ;)

Wyrdwad you said on another topic that the company doesn't take risk localizing and releasing a game and that you have to be sure of his sucess so how xseed was sure of the sucess of trails in the sky ?

We weren't. Not entirely. It's always a matter of weighing risk versus reward... and in the case of Trails, we did exactly that, and determined that the risk was low and the potential rewards were high.

To clarify, there actually was a LOT of risk involved with the Ys games and Trails especially (given how much time and money had to be put into it). When I say "low risk," I mean "low enough risk" that it's still worth doing. As in, a game that PROBABLY won't bankrupt us. ;)

Everything we do is super-risky, though. We enjoy living life on the edge, you see!

Yeah, you guys really do. I (finally) picked up a copy of Trails in the Sky a few days ago, and am about nine hours into it. I like it, but I keep thinking to myself [Who decided to release this here?! They must be nuts! This will never make a profit!] and other such assorted thoughts. Combined with all three Ys games, I hope you guys are making money. I've thoroughly enjoyed all of these games.

I mean it's just weird. Every time I sit through like 5 minutes of a cutscene consisting of entirely nothing but text and enjoy it, I keep wondering if this is 1997, right after FF7 came out when everybody thought every RPG ever would rake in tons of cash in America but then realize it's 2011 and you guys must be nuts. (I suppose since the text doesn't read like a bunch of Engrishy garbage further proves it isn't 1997 too :P)

trails in the sky is a rpg so different of the last ff , he isn't commercial or isn't created to do tons of money but he is so better than last ff or others rpg that we can see now :) !!!!

I'd just be interested in knowing whether the game met (or exceeded) expectations. That's what matters in the long run.

The fact you're still going on with SC and 3rd would lead one to believe it did, although it was mentioned even before release that you were dedicated in bringing the trilogy over at least. Then again, plans could have easily changed if the game bombed.

Whats the problem with sitting through a cutscene containing 5+mins of text? The problem isn't really the length, but the quality. Is it interesting? is it humorous? is there some interesting drama? and so on...

Yes. The problem isn't sitting through 5 minutes of text itself - it's sitting through 5 minutes worth of GOOD text. As many games as I play and as many of them are RPGs, there isn't very much of that at all.

Look at Ys Seven. There was a decent amount of text in that game, and a lot of it was pretty boring. And I loved Ys Seven! But it was a bit too talky. (As an aside, I think Xseed did the best they could given the generic story of Ys Seven.)

I've been reading the books I pick up in TitS. I actually care. Well done on this one, Falcom/Xseed.

You guys have got BALLS BALLS BALLS BALLS BAAAAAALLS of steel.

Seriously though, Trails in the Sky rocked. I played the damn thing almost non-stop till the end and loved every minute of it. I've love to see more of both TiTS and Ys. After playing Ys Seven, Oath in Felghana and TiTS I am fully convinced that Falcom are kings among developers.

srsly. Falcom's probably my #1 game developer now, considering my favorite games consist of Ys and Trails.

My only gripe with them really is how they're "whoring out" the Kiseki series(though, I'm only irked because I'll likely never be able to play them).
