Official Press Release:

XSeed Games to Publish Solatorobo: Red the Hunter in North America This Fall

Torrance, Calif. - XSEED Games, an independent-minded publisher, today announced a partnership with Namco Bandai Games that will bring the highly-acclaimed Action RPG title Solatorobo: Red the Hunter to North America on the Nintendo DS handheld system. Developed by celebrated Japanese game studio CyberConnect2, Solatorobo: Red the Hunter (also known as Solatorobo: And Then to CODA) is viewed by many as the spiritual successor to the classic RPG adventure, Tail Concerto, which drew praise in the late 1990s for its anime-style artistic elements and distinctive anthropomorphic animal characters, traits which are shared by Solatorobo. Under the exclusive agreement, XSEED Games will have sole publishing rights to Solatorobo: Red the Hunter in North America when it releases this fall on Nintendo DS.

"We are extremely excited to bring Solatorobo: Red the Hunter to all the fans who have been clamoring for this amazing game since its initial release in Japan," said Jun Iwasaki, President of XSEED Games. "Solatorobo delivers a fresh new style of game for the popular handheld which consists of an extremely unique and detailed world, resulting in an experience that is both rich in story and of a high visual fidelity rarely seen on the Nintendo DS platform."

Released in Japan last October, Solatorobo (literally translated "sky and robot") takes place in the Shepherd Republic, a series of floating islands that are populated by two distinct races of anthropomorphic dog- and cat-people. While very human-like in their nature, both of these races have evolved to use specially-built robot mechs (or Robos) in their everyday lives.

In the game, players follow the story of the dog-like Red Savarin, a young adventurer and hunter who has set off with his Robo companion Dahak on a quest to retrieve a stolen file of the utmost importance, only to be thrown into an altogether deeper adventure along the way. As the story of Solatorobo: Red the Hunter develops further, Red and Dahak will travel throughout the Shepherd Republic, meeting new characters along the way and uncovering the truth behind a mystical artifact he has discovered.

Currently in production, Solatorobo: Red the Hunter will be released this fall in North America by XSEED Games for Nintendo DS. XSEED Games will release more product information in the coming months.

About XSEED Games:
XSEED Games was formed in November 2004 by a small group of industry veterans led by president Jun Iwasaki with a common vision: to cross-pollinate the avid gaming cultures of Japan and North America. Delivering unique, innovative titles across multiple platforms and genres, XSEED Games is dedicated to publishing products that appeal to and enrich the North American market. Extremely happy this is making it over here, thank you XSEED for yet another awesome localization choice! My first pre-order is placed, and I'm sure I'll end up placing several more before its release.

I am kind of curious though, in the Siliconera post it mentioned you guys were "basing" the localization off NOE's version, what exactly does that mean? Annnnnd might you possibly be able to super sneakily steal their Xenoblade localization as well for a US release...? ;)

Sounds like they're paying them for the rights to use it and maybe making a few tweaks for our American English? That'd mean a higher licensing fee but obviously a whole lot less time (and money) localizing it too. I'm kind of hoping that Xenoblade and any other potential NoE RPG release (where NoA drops the ball) may turn out similarly, but we'll see...

Just as with any other game where we receive outside assistance for localization (Ys Felghana and Chronicles, and Trails in the Sky, for example), we always make a point of editing the text in-house before publishing, to ensure that everything is up to usual XSEED standards (or whatever the closest equivalent we can manage in the time provided may be). ;)

Solatorobo is no different. Fortunately, the European translation is overall really good, so our edits will likely be pretty minimal.

As for Xenoblade... don't we wish! That game looks amazing! But methinks it wouldn't come cheap (if it came at all!).

Probably won't stop us from trying... but I wouldn't hold my breath.

As a CC2 fan this announcement made me quite happy! Having read the article in Nintendo Power regarding how this game came about it seems as though it was a real labor of love on their part. The numerous references to TC in the original four .hack games reinforces that this games, this world they'd created was near and dear to their hearts. Here's to hoping it sells well in the west. They deserve it.

Now if only we could get a localization for .hack//Link - the only CC2 game that has yet to see a western release~ my collection would be that much more complete!

Well I was torn on this game due to the art direction (anthropomorphic animal people), but after watching this trailer I'm curious to see how this plays out. XSEED, I highly recommend you mention something about this in your own trailers or advertisements, it may bring people around who may be otherwise avoiding it because of the art direction.

Problem is... that's actually a spoiler! We were pretty shocked when they chose to reveal that in the European trailer, as they're giving away a pretty big piece of the plot there. It's not an "end of the world, OMG how could you" sort of spoiler... but it's definitely a story spoiler, so if anyone hasn't watched that video yet, and you're the sort who really minds spoilers, I urge you to hold off!

Pretty sure it'll be a bigger box, since our extra item is a music CD, and trying to cram a music CD into a regular DS case seems like a rather bad idea. ;)

Doesn't really make tooooo much of a difference in terms of cost, actually -- most of that comes from licensing, ratings submissions, production, etc. The biggest effect using NoE's translation had was in terms of time -- we were able to bring this game out a lot more quickly as a result of simply editing in-house, rather than translating and editing alike.

That's not really us, though. We do, effectively, release the game on the day indicated... it's just what other people (distributors, stores, etc.) do with it that's the problem! Big-name games get rushed onto store shelves, but a niche DS game in the current climate? Yeah, nobody's hurrying that one along, sadly. :(

You'll see this happen with almost any small-name title. It's unfortunate... but it's just sort of the way this industry works.

Sorry for the added delay, either way!

I didn't see any at my local Gamestop today, but it could be that the truck just hasn't come yet. I'll be checking again after work tomorrow.

The Gamestop nearby had copies of it for people who haven't pre-ordered so I cancelled my Amazon order and bought it from Gamestop. :D

Can't play it at work but I CAN listen to the CD and read the manual. I love the game manuals XSEED provides. Always thick and colorful. <3

Probably the case. I went to my local one to make some preorders, and the shipment with Solato JUST got in. Only 3 copies by the looks of it (and I believe I heard that only one was an extra. One of the preorders were mine :p) Looks like it'll be a harder one to get ahold of right away, or for those who miss out, will probably have to wait for more shipments to come in.

I'm waiting for my amazon copy too, I hope I still get the CD if they are waiting for another shipment, pre-ordered it over 2 months in advance too Gahh!

Sadly I couldn't check out Gamestop but tomorrow afternoon I will have to look around. I saw the Canadian site said October 5th though...

I been playing Tail Concerto (http://i.imgur.com/TRTCC.jpg) to kind of celebrate the NA release. I got the Japanese version (http://i.imgur.com/zzsV6.jpg) but I don't speak japanese so I haven't really played it so I don't spoil anything for myself when I actually do understand. I felt really bummed out when I saw that amazon was out of stock and Gamestop wasn't going to release till next week...

I completely forgot I preordered this title until I got the call that it would be in this afternoon. So hopefully I'll be able to pick it up before the weekend.

A little help, please. Warning: Spoiler for Chapter 3 inside-

<span style="color:#000000; background-color:#000000;">When you meet Beluga for the first time, are you not supposed to fight him or did the game not let me fight him because I wasn't at a high enough level?</span> Please leave your answer in a spoiler tag. I know people are probably way past that part but its still common courtesy for others. Any help is appreciated.

Still waiting on Amazon to ship my copy. Sometimes you win with free shipping, other times you lose. :(

I've heard the boxart/cover is embossed? Very spiffy. Is that also a first print-only thing? I'll have to take extra care of it if so!

Well, its basically a box made to hold the game and the cd, so I'd assume its just a first-print run.

Got my copy today! Hooray!

But I'm having a problem. When I imported the CD unto my PC with iTunes, all of the song names and artists names are in Japanese. The songs themselves play fine. Is this how it's supposed to be, or did I screw up?

The CD doesn't have track information built into it; iTunes then queries an online database called Gracenote for information about the disc and fills it in on your computer. I'm assuming that the CD is an exact copy of the Japanese OST, so Gracenote is probably returning the Japanese track list.

So, yeah, that's how it's supposed to be. You can manually edit the names to match the ones inside the CD cover, though.

Alright, thanks for the info. I do remember some notice popping up on iTunes about Gracenote when I was importing it. It's just that this is the first time I've run into it. Anyways, thanks again! I'll keep this in mind if I ever run into something like this again.

Manually?! As in... MANUAL LABOUR?!! How dare they! I bought this game to have fun, not to work! What am I, a barbarian?! Don't we live in an age of technology?! Can't our computer, like, scan the track list or something? Woe is me!!!

I hope this game sells well---would be nice to get a sequel.

In either case, unfortunately, at Gamestop, this title was "pre-order only"--if at least one person didn't pre-order it, at a particular store, then they wouldn't get any in.

So is Red Savarin really a mutt? In one of the Japanese commercials I think it says he is a Shiba Inu but i'm not too sure. So which one is it? Mutt or Shiba Inu? Also, I'm not talking about the guy above me.

Last I checked, I was a mutt =p

In all seriousness though, within the context of the story, he's a mutt (not explicitly stated)---and within the context of the official website, it's officially stated he's a mutt (http://www.solatorobo.com/).

I really love the sidequests in this game. Usually sidequests are just boring fetch or kill this with absolutely nothing interesting to them, but here there are a lot of them that are little side stories, like with Amelie or Alicia and co. So far I haven't left a quest untouched.
