View Full Version : Casual Wii Games for my parents
hi all i am a loser
after coming home and being able to set up the wii for my parents in the living room since doing so over the phone was impossible ("JESUS CHRISTSARAH WHY ARE THERE SO MANY WIRES"), my mom is now on the hunt for good wii games. She is not a gamer in any way, so stuff like Mario Kart (which has some EMOTIONAL TRAUMA for me anyway) would just make her very frustrated.
We have Wii Sports, I'm leaning towards Wii Play, but I honestly have no clue what that is. She is menopausal and gets frustrated quick so something stupid and easy would work, but preferably something that doesn't suck (maybe impossible). Send your recommendations sir or ma'am thank you drive-thru
But really, any help is appreciated although I'm not sure anyone here is knowledgeable about those fun fun silly wacky Wii games. But I'm desperate. Thanks <:

I don't play very many casual games, but I can at least recommend some non-casual games that casual gamers might enjoy! (:
Our own "Ivy the Kiwi" is a game that anyone can learn to play in minutes, and it's pretty great fun. It can get frustrating as you go along, but there's a steady learning curve, so it might be a good game to use for "training" your mother to be a gamer (heheheh).
Another similar choice would be "A Boy and His Blob" -- though that one has a slightly more unbalanced difficulty curve, and may ultimately prove frustrating to your mother if she were to start with it. It could make a good second choice for if Ivy the Kiwi "stays down," though. ;)

Wii Play is basically just a collection of minigames. I think it has billiards, air hockey, and this cool tanks game, among other things that never interested me when we rented it. Wii Fit Plus and Wii Sports Resort would also be worth looking into (the latter might have come with the console though?), Wii Fit Plus does include lots of simple minigames using the balance board along with the fitness stuff.
If Mario Kart is too much for her, I find it hard to recommend much else. That is probably the most popular game to get people into "real" games on the Wii. Maybe Kirby's Epic Yarn? I don't even think you can die in that game, you just lose "points."

Try Tetris Party or Dr Mario Online Rx, my mom plays that ALL the freaking time, so i guess it must be easy to get into? :p
But seriously, i'ld recommend those as i wouldn't exactly call my mom a "gamer", she'll play some games with me, but constantly needs guidance, but with Tetris Party and Dr Mario Online Rx she literally got the hang of whats what by herself and now she's constantly trying to get me to play them.
And out of curiosity, what does she call "too many wires"? sensor bar plug, electric cord and A/V Cable?:p

Oh, hey, what about adventure games? I know a lot of non-gamers who really enjoy those Agatha Christie mystery titles, for example -- and there are quite a few similar games on the Wii (Broken Sword, WiiWare Monkey Island, etc.). They're good choices for non-gamers, I think, because (for the most part) you can't actually LOSE.

Just Dance 2 is pretty fun, and as far as I'm aware there's no way to lose. And if your parents don't play it you can. Just Dance 2 is one of the best ways to look like an idiot in front of your friends. :p

There are non-casual games on the Wii?
Kidding.
Mostly.
