Been looking for something to listen to while I'm working, and I keep thinking of how awesome it would be to create a playlist containing nothing but Ys series final battle themes, just to hear how the compositions have changed (yet stayed consistently awesome) all this time... so, I figured, what the heck, why not? And so, this video was born:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YTKMr8yc3U0

9 tracks, 34 minutes. Final battle themes from every Ys game, including both versions of Ys IV and Ys Origin.

(All totally on the level, too, since Falcom has publicly pronounced their music viable for sharing via streaming media such as YouTube!)

Anyway, in addition to sharing this playlist of mine, I figured I'd also leave the door open for you guys to post links to YouTube videos of your favorite Ys music -- be it from XSEED releases, other Ys games, or even arrange/doujin albums or Mario Paint! Let's hear what you think of when you think "Ys."

Because Ys music deserves to be heard by the world!

Ys Online: The Call of Solum is a MMORPG based on Nihon Falcom's action-RPG series, Ys. It was developed by CJ Internet Corporation in Korea. Here's some of the music that I've recorded from the game and uploaded to YouTube, concentrating only on tracks that are arrangements of classic Ys music, since Ys Online's own tracks aren't that special (also because I can't name them).

Enjoy! :)

Ys Online - Battle #58 (Ys IV) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=goKFW1656PM)
Ys Online - Feena (Ys I & II) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XaYVBNbHT8M)

This is my favorite cover of my favorite Ys track, Quatera Woods:

This track is what made me really attached to Ys 6. I loved the atmosphere, and the general environments of the area.

This cover of Mother Earth Altago is pretty nice too:

I love Ruins of Moondoria. I recall hanging around at the ruins in Ys II ETERNAL just to listen to the BGM.

Hirm, I can't really pinpoint out WHICH version I link so I'll just link to the PC Engine one.

<3 patpend's covers.

As much as I love Ys' music, he makes it even better. All of his Ys covers are perfection.

So I'm a huge Falcom music fan, especially the games that Yuzo Koshiro worked on and the frequency modulation stuff from the X68000 and PC98 and all of those. I think my favorite Falcom soundtrack is the X68000 version of Ys 3. I can't find it anywhere on Youtube, but here's a version of Adol's theme I ripped from the X68k Ys 3.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2957395/Ys%20III%20-Wanderers%20From%20Ys-%20-%20Theme%20of%20Adol%20%28X68000%20OPM%2BMSM%29.mp 3

Hope I don't get in trouble for posting that link; I couldn't find it on Youtube! But yeah, the Ys 3 soundtrack is one of my favorites of all time and is pretty much singularly responsible for getting me into composing music for the X68k. Speaking of Ys 3, check this out.

Start listening at around 1:00. I was digging through old Let's Plays yesterday and discovered this game and thought it sounded kind of familiar. It took me a minute to realize it but...

That Jim Power song is almost identical to the first 30 or so seconds of A Searing Struggle from Ys 3 and Oath in Felghana. Pretty wild! I guess Chris H?šlsbeck, the guy who did the Jim Power soundtrack, was a big fan of Ys. And uh, a plagiarist. He gets a free pass though because he was one of the greatest composers for the C64 and Amiga.

Nunuu's post +1. (: Actually, she and I know one another from another message board, and we rarely ever agree on anything... but in this matter, we are completely of the same mind. "I'm Here For You" is an amazing track!
