...Seriously? Can someone please explain to me how money is more important to me than it is to a woman? Because as far as I'm aware it's equally important to both, but apparently my ignorant mind is wrong.

I swear I lose more and more faith in humanity every day. Stuff like this really gets my blood boiling.

I don't understand it either. Why should men get more money? Sure thats cool for guys but what about women. What if some women find themselves in a tight economic budget . Whats gonna happen to single mothers if they can't raise their children well because of lack of money. Really this report is just sexist. Men and women are equal in this world so they should be treated as such.

I lost faith in this world a long time ago. Though I still have some. I believe in very little humans like you guys. Though I may not know you guys I at least believe your a lot better than people I have met before.

Never lose faith in humanity. :3 Stupid people and evil people are everywhere, yes, but there are always good hearted people, and we should not give up on them.

Blame it on society for clinging to the traditional mindset that men are supposed to be the breadwinners and women are supposed to stay at home and raise the kids or whatever. I don't think a law like this is really all that needed when white-collar workers, where women traditionally fare as well as or better than men, have more or less completely invalidated the need for men. The most significant barriers still for women in the workforce are physical jobs (because men are pretty much built stronger by default) and high level executives (there are extremely few female CEOs out there for some reason despite the high number of qualified individuals). Unfortunately, when there are some companies that pay women less for the same work, that's the only reason to have a law like this in the first place, because that's just dumb.

Pretty much this; just sounds like an outdated patriarchal idea by someone living in the past. It's still going to be a few more generations before blatant stupidity like this is erased from society. I'm a female engineering school graduate and I'm fully aware I'm going to run into this crap everywhere, just gotta hope that things improve as the "baby boomer" generation begins to dwindle.

What personally scared me was how many anti-women republican presidential candidates were in the running this year in the US, some of them blatantly so (Santorum, for one). I do think the generation gap is what keeps these outdated ideals floating around in society, but seeing someone like that elected would really set us back a generation in my opinion.

Well this is just all sorts of stupid. Though, honestly, I am wondering if if this is more about sticking it to the working class than women, looking at some of the things this Governer has done and said in the past. He's also completely bought if I recall by big business folks, so it would make sense.

Oh my god, some of the presidential candidates are awful. It's like they're trying to completely remove any progress women have made since they got the right to vote.

Well, yeah, this country has it's foot planted firmly on the reverse pedal right now. (Yes, there's no reverse pedal, but that's beside the point.)

And I'm not sure any of the presidential candidates are really worthwhile. I wish my vote counted. :(

You are correct, one of the goals of feminism is ensuring equal rights and treatment for women. What's your point?

I'm torn between being glad Santorum dropped (good thoughts to his daughter though) and wishing he was still there to be a thorn in Romney's side. :\

Hah, true. I guess Romney's the lesser of the two evils but I probably won't vote for him either. It's depressing that we've seen far more anti-abortion laws proposed than anything related to actual important issues like the economy and jobs. The first person who actually shows legitimate interest in the economy is gonna get my vote, which means I'm probably going to end up writing in someone XD

I'm not sure I'll bother voting this election. Voting during general election years is pretty pointless in this state because the outcome is predetermined. Too many people going out and ticking whatever boxes have the (R) guy, often without even knowing anything else about them.

And considering I'm pretty centerist/left center on the political spectrum, I don't really have anyone to vote for anyway.

I'll be honest, I used to scoff at "feminists." I always thought that feminists were ignorant man-haters who thought women were better than men. I've always thought women and men are equal, but I never considered myself a feminist until recently. Then I realized that the ignorant man-haters were, well, ignorant man-haters instead of true feminists, who want equality for everyone. So yes, now I do proudly consider myself a feminist.

I still personally think feminism is a stupid word because it does imply female superiority, instead of equality, but whatever. The ideas behind it are great.

The fact is

Everyone is equal, but some are more equal than others.

The fact that they had to toss the "Republican" label on there just to spite Republicans makes me laugh. You could have removed that word from the article and the point would still get across. Naturally the same goes for all the anti-Democrat articles that are out there as well.

But.....but......LABELS! WE MUST HAVE THEM!

Well, there was that time back in the original post when there was a link to an article about some politicians repealing a law that contained regulations on payment for protected classes.

It was bound to happen when talking about women's rights XD I made the republican comment, so blame the newbie.

More on the subject of feminism though, totally agreed here:

Whining is still whining. You can't really change the context of what whining is by justifying it.

First thing that came to my mind: No true scotsman. Sorry about that :D I kinda know what you mean though

As for equality, I don't think quotas would make people equal.

Haha, I can see how my post made you think of that. I guess it would be better to say that most feminists are probably not ignorant man-haters. :p

Money is more important for men because they need as much of it as they can get when the wife takes half in the divorce ;)

(that's a joke btw for those that will get pissed over it)
