Let me give you my money now, I just want the happiness of knowing that I have it coming. I'm not sure why, but for some reason I find it soothing to already own a game that is coming out.

It's probably kind of early for that, but hopefully they have a better idea of what they're doing and can get it up for preorder a little while before release.

I dunno if it costs money to have a preorder on steam or not... but Rayman Origins went on preorder like 2 months ago hahaha.

I think it's largely up to Valve if games go preorder or not. But we're still pretty new to this whole Steam thing, so I'm just not sure! We definitely will if we can, though. (:

-Tomi second that notion :)

It's going to be kind of hard to pre-order before XSEED figures out how much they want to charge for the game.

Or an actual release date, for that matter.

I think that it is much more difficult to translate the hordes of text... Price setting seems a little more clear cut, and I've seen companies poll their community for prices. I already made a thread about price speculation I think 30 bucks is what they'll charge still, but others think a bit lower. I dunno I bought the Chinese version for like 30 bucks so you don't want to undercut Falcom either. All this information is something they have. Don't get me wrong marketing is hard but they probably already have a price bracket in mind.

We actually have a price in mind already -- just not a date. We're getting there, though, slowly but surely. ;)

I'd be willing to bet it's under $30.
Then again I'm always wrong. So I'm not going to make that bet.

Figured as much.Hopefully it'll fit my budget. And knowing you do correct currency conversion, that might just be the case...

I could be wrong too,but a jump from 15 to 30 is not gonna sit well with quite a number of people,I think.

I think it will be around $20,
Origin isnt that new game annymore, but its newer than oath i guess.

It's not "new" in the sense that it was just developed, but it is new in terms of being the first time it's officially available in English. Between that and the game being a bit meatier with three playable characters, I think that arguably justifies a $20 price point.
At the same time some people felt Oath was overpriced at $15. I don't know how many, but certainly it has the potential to sell a lot more during a sale. I don't know anyone who has already bought the game, but two people are interested and will probably pick it up eventually (probably on sale, plus I'll probably gift it to my brother).
At the same time some people felt Oath was overpriced at $15.
Pfft, some people think $.99 is too much for a game. $15 for one of the best action RPGs of all time is a small price to pay.

I really do not understand some people. :/ I mean, I have a pretty small gaming budget; I average out buying about a game a month, usually, and that usually is not even a $60 dollar game, but I do not think that Oath is overpriced, or anything that I have seen on the Virtual Console, EShop, PSN, or Steam. People say five dollars for an Digital NES game is too much. What the hell? :/
But, some people have REALLY said that $.99 is too much?

I agree and I bought it the first day at $15 and thought it was more than a fair price.
However, having said that Steam is kind of a different market. I think people have been trained to expect sales, especially during the biannual huge sales where almost the whole site goes on sale, but to a lesser extent from the daily sales too.
Also, all the indie bundles have really driven down the perceived value of a lot of games. Not that this is an indie game, but it is somewhat retro and might be perceived similar to an indie game.
Note that I am not saying the price of Felghana should be lowered here, but I do think it would be a good idea for it to go on sale at some point. I think with a temporary price reduction there will be a large spike in sales as I'm betting a lot of people are waiting for a sale to bite on it. In most cases I do that myself but I made an exception since I am such a big Ys fan from way back.

Never underestimate cheapskates, especially in these post iPhone days.

I think Oath in Felghana was the first game on Steam I bought off sale since... 2008, when I first started using the service.
I have you beat. Oath in Felghana is the first game I bought of steam since Half Life 2 in 2004.

To be fair, different games have different perceived value to different people. You might think 15$ is great for Oath, but others might think 7.50 or 5 or 2.50 is more appropriate for it,and their opinion is no less valid than yours.
As for paying full-priced games, not counting Ys,last time was 2 years ago when they released F.E.A.R. .

I wasn't even aware that Steam was around that long. Either way, welcome to the forums. :3

It's been out in beta form even longer, way back to 2002 (when they released CS 1.6). They started selling Third Party games in 2005 though.

Oh I've bought plenty of games ;) But between 2008 (Audiosurf, my first Steam game) and now the only 2 of my 184* or so Steam games have been bought for full price.
*Includes some things that really shouldn't count, since over half my games have come from bundles.

You should totally cut ~5 bucks off the total price to those who pre-order. You might intice people to buy it, and once they realize how great of a game it is they might buy Oath in Felghana. More people playing = more people referring others to play. It's a decent strategy, and I really want you guys to make as much money as possible... XSeed has brought me nothing but awesome games, I want you guys to be successful.

Bingo. There are people who call Recettear overpriced at $20 despite it having as much or more actual content as games that retail for upwards of three times that.
Now, most of the people complaining were never really going to be customers anyway, even if you drop it to $.99. But the iPhone has had sort of a toxic effect on the perception of value in interactive entertainment.

Yeah. I never found iPhones to be FLASHy. I mean, I don't want to give them any FLAC, but I can't get OGGressive about them.

Aaaand this feeds back into my earlier statement (different value perception for different people for different games). Personal budget size also sometimes factors into into (buy one of this, or 5 of those?). Ultimately, those customers are not obligated to buy your game and you are not obligated to sell it to them at the prices they want.
As for the "toxicity" of mobile phone apps pricing...I don't see it.Sales pricing seems to normally hover between 5 to 2.50,with 0.99 or lower prices being a rarity (or DLC). I'd say both sales & indie bundles have had a more "toxic" effect on value perception than dinky mobile apps.
Oh,and not to diss your game or anything (bought it full price and loved every single hour I spent on it),but to say your game has more content than other higher price-point games is a bit cheeky,as you can say the same thing for lower-priced games.

I'm not too sure what the message was. Are those formats used in iPhone games & considered to be low quality? Sorry for playing the dunce, I guess.

On the contrary, they are pretty high-quality music formats (FLAC is lossless, even). To be frank,I didn't get the joke at all either... :/
