For Falcom games? Naaaah... unless you've had your laptop for like, 10 years, it should be fine. ;)

I'm telling you man, it sucks, It's just really choppy, I have Origins and it screws up (usually during boss fights >:) I don't know what it is, but I need a new one for design work as well so it'll have to happen either way.

If you have an adapter or use motioninjoy you can use those controllers.

I doubt we'll get any sort of answer on this yet since XSEED hasn't even really comment on this yet (no, the comment in this thread hardly counts for anything), but it doesn't hurt to ask.
Is there any chance Falcom will be implementing proper widescreen support in the English PC releases? I know the Napishtim engine games support widescreen resolutions, but only stretched. Also curious if they'd increase resolution options for Xanadu Next (and any other low-res 3D games) since it's maximum natively supported resolution is like 1024x768. I know there are some fan-made patches that fix this stuff for the retail copies, but they might not work with the Steam releases. So that likely means official support for that, or nothing at all.
I'm not expecting them to do that (or even get an answer at this point), but it would be nice if it happened ;)

WHat about Ark of Napishtim, XSEED don'Mt have the rights on this one right? It's Konami Y_Y

JoytoKey may also be of some help, as well.

We're not even sure if it's the Original PC release or an enhanced PC backport of the PSP version yet XD
(though it's most likely the former)

That entirely depends on the licensing. Konami might only have rights to the PSP+PS2 versions they developed, plus their translation. So XSEED could still get the PC version, and either retranslate it, or buy Deuce's translation like they did for Chronicles and Oath.
Then again, Konami might have full rights to an English/North American release so XSEED would have to go through them. Given what was said in the other topic, I don't think it will be a problem. Especially since Konami's license may have expired, which would explain why Ys VI isn't on PSN for PSP. That or Konami just knows it's a terrible port and don't want to embarrass themselves by standing it up alongside Falcom's ports ;)

Really hope Ys Origin doesn't take too long so I can ditch my barely working AppLocale shortcut.
I can't decide if Origin is the best or second best of the games I've played. Choosing between it and Oath is impossible.

Hopefully, this marks Falcom's explosion onto the PC scene in the West and a consequently enormous Xseed budget to fully localise the Legend of Heroes series in style. It could happen.

It's great to see that you're going to put Ys III on Steam, I would like to see other Falcom games on Steam (like Ys Origin, Zwei!!, TitS etc.), I have some friends that use Steam and they'll be happy to hear the news.

Really? Origin definitely takes first for me, even though Oath isn't too far behind it.

The following rumor has not popped up, but it will sooner or later. So I am going to respond to it right now.
The way I see it, this decision by XSEED does not guarantee or promise that Falcom would go back to developing for the PC.
However, this is good news. I hope it will continue with past Falcom games. :)

I hope you're right. Origin would be like day 1 buy. :P

I'm definitely hoping this pans out. I don't have a PSP and finding an affordable Japanese PC copy of OiF is a fool's errand, so I never got the opportunity to play it.
More importantly, I'm eager to see how the Western PC market reacts to the franchise. Can't be any worse than the anemic Japanese market.

I don't think anybody really expected that though, especially exclusively. I suppose that could be a benefit of going to PhyreEngine though, making multiplatform games (primarily Vita for Japan, PC/console for the west) wouldn't require much extra effort on their part and could potentially reach a much larger audience in the west versus putting games exclusively on Vita. I think multiplatform was already in consideration (Vita/PS3) given some of the comments they've made, adding PC back in the mix wouldn't be difficult.

PhyreEngine is good news, but as I think you posted earlier, its unlikely we will be seeing the Zero no Kiseki PC version or the Ys Seven PC version unless Falcom ports it themselves and thats up to Falcom since they have to re-establish their PC team. For now they repeatedly stated that they are focused on the Japanese market, not the North American or the EU market.
Anyway what is interesting is that XSEED's name is listed instead of Falcom's, that begs the question if the Japanese text will be added as a option. If the option is available it will show Falcom's intention to test the waters of steam for the option of future PC titles on steam under the XSEED banner or as a separate listing.

Why would seeing XSEED's name make you think Japanese text could be an option? Has XSEED ever released anything that still had the original Japanese text in it?

Falcom will probably be listed as the developer and XSEED as the publisher. I don't see why that wouldn't be the case since that's exactly how it's happening.
And Ys Seven is in an unfortunate position. Unlike Zero, Ao, and presumably Nayuta no Kiseki which already have PC versions of their engine, Ys Seven is entirely a PSP game through and through. It (along with Ys vs SnK and Ys Celceta) will probably never be available on PC outside China due to the lack of a quality port since the engine doesn't exist on PC. Pretty sad, Ys Seven would actually make sense to release, but they can't for technical reasons. The later Kiseki games technically could be released, but won't due to their size and the cost required for a quality PC port (a bill XSEED would probably have to foot), assuming the first two or however many games sell well.

1. Steam is not region lock and is universal depending on the publisher. Companies are allowed to upload different translations for their game. Ex: Skyrim
2. If Falcom wanted to try out steam themselves which they have stated in a interview that they are "looking into it," it doesnt make sense to have two listings of the same game on steam and it seems impractical that one releases on steam for Japan and another for North America.
Falcom will probably be listed as the developer and XSEED as the publisher. I don't see why that wouldn't be the case since that's exactly how it's happening.
Obviously, Falcom's name would be listed as developer when you finally look on the product page when its finally available. I understand Nayuta's engine has a PC version, but will Falcom go for it?
We both know this is good for games before Ys Seven. :)
I'm just hoping this opens up doors for falcom games that would otherwise not be released here.

I think that Ys Seven and Zero no Kiseki can be on Steam, Zero no Kiseki has a chinese version for PC and Ys Seven is going to have a PC version but only in chinese.

The Zero no Kiseki port isn't worth XSEED's time. It's a bad port and there's no way they could provide support for it. For that game to get released on Steam sometime down the road it would need to be entirely redone (assuming the other games sell well enough for them to attempt to localize it 5 years from now or whenever it would be ;)). There's a possibility (however slim) that Seven could turn out better, but that would still have potential licensing issues since it's developed by an outside party.
