I'm trying to find someplace i can buy the Chobits manga (the original volumes, not the Omnibus versions), but so far it's a no go because i want it new. I tried Amazon, but unless i'm missing something, Amazon itself is not selling it, it's through other vendors. Barnes & Noble and Books-A-Million has them listed, but no picture and a Publication Date of 2009 which is a little misleading since the originals came out around 2002/2003, so i'm hesistant on purchasing from them. Rightstuf doesn't have the originals at all, only the Omnibus versions.

Any ideas where i could buy them, preferably new, from?

With the originals from 2002/2003, I imagine that finding them new would be pretty hard. :/

If there are any around you, you could try Used Bookstores. Despite the name, I have found new books in them (or, books tha looked darn near new). Unless they were wrapped; I am not sure if used stores are allowed to accept wrapped things. Still, it is an idea. I imagine Google could help you look for that.

Uhm, hmm... yeah, I can not imagine any big chain stores having those, really. Especially with so many of them closing stores.

Well, I am sorry that I was not more help. :/ I would still check out used book stores. Either way, let us know if you find them. :3

I actually don't have any problems with buying them used...but i'm hesistant to buy something i can't see and inspect. eBay would work wonderfully, but more then 75% of the listings are using stock photos :|

That is the beuty of used bookstores. :3 But, I understand you completely on buying online. :(

There just has to be more options out there...

I'll have to check some bookstores then, assuming i find any in my area. Otherwise i guess i'll have to take the risk buying it online.

Yeah, sure will. I'm aiming to order around next week or the week after if i don't find anything in town.

I haven't bought manga in a long time, but it sounds like the books you're looking for are out of print. But I would just look around any bookstore near you. You might get lucky and find them. Also it can't hurt to look online and see if you can find anything with an actual picture of what you're buying, and not just a stock photo.

Any particular reason why you don't want the omnibuses?

I guess if i had to give one reason, for collections purposes, i'ld rather get each volume seperately.

Do you have any Asian-owned hobby places in your city? There's a place here in my city that sells both domestic and import Japanese goods, and is where I got all my localized Chobits mangas. Granted, that was like 5 years ago, or so.

I kept my Chobits volumes. I liked them better separated, and don't really care for omnibuses as well, lol.

Now, if only I could get my Volume 1 back from my ex... >_>

I gave up on finding volumes....4 and 6 I think it was of Blame! sometimes it just seems impossible to find old manga books. at least there's scanlations if you really can't find the damn things....though it sucks when your collection has gaps in it

this is why if there is a manga coming out that I want I try to get it ASAP cause I don't know if it will he hard to find later

That makes sense. There are certain omnibuses I like better than the regular volumes, like Rurouni Kenshin. Those are printed on much higher quality paper than the original releases and even have some color pages. Even though I have the whole series, I've been considering upgrading to the omnibuses. Kenshin is my favorite manga series, and probably the only (or at least one of the few) series I won't eventually get rid of. Although I've seen other omnibuses that are cheaply made compared to the individual volumes.

No, i wish...i live in a pretty shithole city, we didn't even have a Best Buy until about 2 or 3 years ago. I have to travel about an hour or more to get to any such shops and then, i've only "seen" some on the few times i've been that way that i think might be those kinds of shops, might not for all i know :(

In that case, i guess it could be worth digging more info about particular mangas.

Well, I guess you could always try a seller on Amazon, check the condition they say the book is in, and go by their seller rating. Buy 1 volume as a test, and if its in as good a condition as you wanted, you'd probably be safe buying the rest from them?

Thanks for the advice, i'll try and take it into account. I also found someone on eBay selling all 8 for $50, i don't think that's such a bad deal, although i could probably find them cheaper.

As long as it is good quality, I usually prefer Omnibuses, mostly just because it feels like you are getting more bang for your buck. :3 I wish Lovely Complex would release some Omnibuses; at 10 dollars an issue, I would rather not pay 170 dollars for the entire series. :(

Robert's Anime Corner Store and Rightstuf are good places to buy online (not sure if they'll have what you're looking for, though, just sayin').

It was a bot who not only contributed to the topic by saying where they bought mangas, but had an avatar AND added a location! Still, the link to a Payday Loan subtlety in their topic was the giveaway... So crazy though!
