View Full Version : When can we start pre-ordering?
Last year the Skyward Sword Bundle sold out and many that pre-ordered didn't get theirs. That is why I would like to pre-order early, because I'm afraid there might be limited quantities shipped to retailers.

Knowing Amazon and Gamestop I would guess they will likely open online pre-orders by the end of the month if not sooner. They have a habit of jumping the gun on these things.

I doubt it would be a Gamestop exclusive or something. Availability probably won't be any different than any of their other games.

The reason Xenoblade Chronicles is a Gamestop/EB Games exclusive is likely that Gamestop is footing some (or most) of the publishing costs in exchange for exclusivity.

They're also supposed to be advertising it. I don't visit Gamestop, but they should have some posters or cardboard standups throughout the store.

According to Operation Rainfall's site, Gamestop is accepting pre-orders for The Last Story and a release date of June 20, 2012 is shown. The game isn't listed on the Gamestop site yet, but the local store confirmed it. Amazon is accepting pre-orders (http://www.amazon.com/Last-Story-Nintendo-Wii/dp/B007CSF3GO/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1330090231&sr=8-11) with a release date of June 19, 2012. I need to manage my money, so I'll be pre-ordering Xenoblade and then replenishing my funds to pre-order The Last Story.

Yeah depends which is cheaper. Not really a fan of LE but I can't say I hate the idea. I usually only buy the game and playing it, but I usually see Xseed games both their LE and standard versions are rather the same price.

Might be...I just got an LE from them in bubblewrap that I'm sending back due to the box being bent. On the plus side, unlike a LOT of retailers, Amazon doesn't charge for return shipping so if they're going to go with cheap packaging, it's not a big deal to me (just annoying).
Anyway, I'm waiting for the LE order link myself. No reason to cancel it later. :P

You can provide feedback on Amazon for packaging. Anytime they send a game - especially an LE - in a bubble mailer I give them hell for it in the feedback. I've had two games damaged in the mail because of those. Not just dented LE boxes, but physically broken DVD cases.
Fortunately, they seem to be using cardboard sleeves now that are much more sturdy. I get those a lot more often than bubble mailers now.

Well, you'll get different opinions on if there's something "wrong" with Gamestop. I've never had any issues ordering from their site so I'm fine with that, but I really hate buying things from their stores. They open new games and place stickers all over the case and still sell them as "new". That's what I reeeally dislike about them...
Usually, however, if you pre-order a game they'll hold it for you and not open it or defile it with stickers.

Is there something wrong with GameStop? I pre-ordered Xenoblade from them.I generally prefer amazon because I have had problems with gamestop in the past. Everything from orders being shipped out slowly (or late) to my pre-orders being canceled for some of the wall reason. I never pre-order games from their brick stores either because alot of times they will give you some BS excuse and you will not get your pre-order bonus.
Not to mention the incident last last year where they opened up copies of Dues Ex and removed the onlive code caused me to lose what little respect I had left for them. http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/24/gamestop-intentionally-removing-deus-ex-onlive-coupons-from-reta/
Originally I planned to pre-order Xenoblade from the Nintendo store, but they had to be evil and offer an artbook as a gamestop exclusive forcing me to change my order. As for The Last Story I already have it pre-ordered from amazon.
Gamestop is not a company I like (or trust).... I only buy from them occasionally because they often have the best pre-order bonuses.
Other than the whole selling "new" but opened merchandise in stores and the fact Gamestop tried to screw me over on slime plushies for DQ VI, the other thing I don't like about Gamestop is their packaging tends to be worse (although Amazon goes with bubble mailers from time to time and usually to bad results, Gamestop pretty much always does). Oh, and taxes upfront and often shipping charges, neither of which I have to deal with for Amazon (at least until tax laws catch up... >_>). If it weren't for the fact they often get exclusives to them, I would just as soon put my money toward a more reputable vendor, even if Amazon's shipping tends to be on the slow side (not a Prime member).

I always get Amazon items super fast when buying online. But, I live in Seattle, where the Amazon headquarters is ;).
I don't have too much of a problem with Gamestop, except for what people said above, them opening new copies and putting stickers on them. At the same time, you can always opt for an unopened package, or just buy somewhere else if they don't have any like that. One other problem is ratio of shelf space for new vs. used games. They basically make it so you will be enticed to by used games; also their used sales are way over priced. Example: A used PS3, I think with 80 GB hard drive, sells at Gamestop for 239.99. A brand new PS3, with 160GB hard drive sells for 250. Seriously....what the hell?
At the same time, I have some respect because they helped out in some way with Xenoblade. I also like going there to talk to certain people about games. I don't buy used games anymore, for the most part, so it doesn't matter too much where you buy new...the retailer only gets, like, 1 or 2 dollars profit on new games.

I am going to wait until I have a little bit of extra spending cash to pre-order; I'd also rather know if the game has an LE or not before pre-ordering, just because I can be pretty bad at changing my pre-orders (does not help that I have to go a city over to get to a decent GameStop).
I like being able to only put $5 down a Gamestop but that's the only thing that really keeps me from preordering at amazon. Gamestop tends to carry popular titles and even though it is a store that specializes in video games, their selection can be limited and their employees often only know about CoD. The other month I bought Ys I&II LE there and the contents of the LE box were behind the counter, and the employee sloppily shoved the contents into the box and started to ask me what the game was and he'd never heard of it. I know that a lot of people don't know certain series like that, but not a single employee has a clue. The employees at mine are all highschoolers that only know about Skyrim and CoD. It just irks me that it is such a big chain that is pretty much the only place that specifically sells games and often times they don't know what they're talking about. I guess if you pre-order there you can have a decent amount of confidence, but I've gotten preordered things that weren't sealed from them before as well, I just wish they'd take better care of their merchandise.
Well to be fair, a lot of the people who would be knowledgeable about games aren't actually hired there. I tried to get a job there on my weekends because I like games so much and they probably figured I was yanking their chain. The devil is in the details when you're talking about stores with people earning roughly the minimum wage. But I mean why would your typical employee care about a game that's just going to end up sitting on the shelf at GameStop for months when GameStop will be pushing for more sales of the current flavor of the moment game?

I understand, I don't blame them, I just wish there was more video game chains that maybe had a little more variety. Local shops usually don't have distributor rights to offer games for preorder. All I'm saying is that Gamestop doesn't really care all that much about a consumer or games as long as it's profitable. Which isnt unlike many businesses. I just hate being asked if I want to preorder CoD or another game I don't care about as try to search through the mountain of sticker covered cases to find anything in their dwindling JRPG and PSP collection.

Canadian versions of games always have French on the packaging I always found that weird. I have wound up getting Canadian versions of games on ebay before, you can tell right away because the box and manual is all doubled in French.
US games typically have just English on the package.

Well we are officially a bilingual country, even though the vast majority only speak English, so it makes perfect sense. I personally don't care either way myself though, and I always feel bad for French speaking gamers because French manuals often don't fit in the game cases themselves because they're oversized to cover the back cover of the game (inside the shrink wrap). I usually end up throwing out the French manual.

I liked how PS2 games were handed with french. They just wrapped up the English case again in more shrink wrap with a english/french cover and put the french manual in there. It let me have an English case and just recycle the rest. I've gotten used to having french/english on cases now though, I'm from the US but moved to Canada about 4 years ago.
