What is your favorite movies and why?
Love Actually, Memoirs of a Geisha, Underworld, Stardust, Blood & Chocolate, Get Real, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Chronicles of Narnia, and let's just stop there ...
I like any of these movies either because: they make me feel good, they have an awesome storyline, or they have a character (or characters) I identify with.
What movies do you own?
Um, that would be a super duper long list that I'd rather not put together.
Do you want to replace your DVD with Blu-ray?
Not particularly. I'm fine with DVD.

This is likely going to shock some folks, but my favorite flick would have to be Tron: Legacy. The original Tron movie captured my imagination as a child and I often daydreamed about what it would be like if I was pulled into the grid (I'm a geek, I know), so this movie was just a realization of my childhood fantasies, and how could anything else really compete with that.
This movie lived up to, and surpassed, my expectations of what a sequel to the original movie could be and I loved everything about it.
The main theme from this movie was stuck in my head for literally MONTHS:

Fastly : Why is Moulin Rouge my favorite Movie...hum...
God everything!
Story is touching
Set is so worked on. All the models that were necessary in the making of the movies
The actor's play. I felt they were completely in it
Ewan Mcgregor, not the usual actor; he does so much movie genre it's nice to see him always so different in every movie
Songs (of course), they were well-choose and fit perfectly with the movie.
The bad guy, I REALLY hate him, they did a great job on him and the actor did a great job too.
French is everywhere, of course! They are in Monmartre, but I find this cute that everything around them was in French :-)
The burlesque effects, that movie can be so serious, funny and sad at the same time.
The French translation is very good, but it cannot cut during the song. French word in an english song is bad...real bad...otherwise the french voice actor also did a great job.
the other one is a spoiler so I won't say it.

And I just remembered two movies I need to buy - No Country for Old Men and True Grit (2010).

I love all Resident Evil movies, no discrimination made.
The Emperor's New Groove, The Iron Giant, Rango, My Neighbour Totoro, Megamind, Lilo and Stitch, WALL-E, A Bug's Life, and Aardman stuff. WOW ALL KID'S MOVIES that says a lot about my life. Although I do love the Big Lebowski, Indiana Jones (Raiders and Last Crusade), and Out of Africa. :V
I forgot Kung-Fu Hustle somehow, I think that movie had a bit of an impact on how I grew up.
I just got the original JP version of the 1954 Godzilla, expertly remastered for bluray by The Criterion Collection. I forgot how amazing the original of the series is!

Can't get enough to see the myazaki movies and in particular the Travel of chihiro :o all is just perfect : the characters are funny and very appealing and no need to talk about the awesomeness of the musics in particulary the ost of the train "spirited away"
well these arguments values for most of his movies (out of the grave of the fireflies :( )

Pulp Fiction is probably my favourite film for many reasons. While being a fast-paced action flick, it also had a strangely philosophical and contemplative ambience. Tarantino does have his moments of brilliance it's fair to say.

I actually just saw it for the first time this week. It was good! But I actually found it rather slow-paced. Being dialogue heavy, I honestly thought there would be alot more action than there was.
i dont really have that many...nor can I remember I have...all the stuff in the storeroom.
what can i remember though
Movies owned: Jurassic Park,2012, Lion King Trilogy, Matrix Trilogy, Star Wars III,IV,V,VI, Transformers I, Spiderman 2, Titanic, Digimon Movie I-III, Pokemon Movie with Mewtwo, Lugia, Celebi, Latias & Latios and the one with Jirachi & Groudon, Batman and Robin, some Ultraman movies(I used to be such a fan of Tiga,Dyna,Gaia and Agul)...and how can i forget Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Movie <-- used to have it on the Laser Disc...now on poor old vcd xD
all i can remember.
i usually dont buy movies...bcoz sometimes they show it on television and once i watched it once, i kind of remember the story plot...so will lose the impact and gets boring.
Some of my fav movies:
Pirates of Carribean <--awesome ost and story...and humor at the appropriate times.
Spiderman/X-men/Iron Man/Batman<-- heck I love the good ol' heroes especially good ol' Spidey~!
Transformers <--man i cant say how much I freaking love the action fighting.
2012 <-- im such a sucker for 'end of the world'-like movies.
Star Wars <-- Loved the action in the first three. IV-VI is alright...more drama and revelation than action in my opinion.
MMPR Movie <-- even when Im nearing 20, I still love this. Never get tired of watching once every few months. Childhood memories~~
DVD with Blu-Ray?
i dunno...the price of the Blu-Ray discs make my parents faint and i dont really care much for it.
as long I can have my stuff, i dont mind even if it was on the old VCDs.

Indeed, point taken. It has some intensely violent scenes, but Pulp Fiction has perhaps a mostly thoughtful, occasionally ironic, pace overall.

I do not own many on DVD though; when it comes to movies, I usually either borrow from ym Dad's DVD collection, or see if what I want it on the television thingy.

I've got one bad thing to say about Moulin Rouge blu-ray. I don't need translation of the songs, yet they do it, even if I don't select any subtitles. I'm watching the movie in english most of the time, but my friends want to watch it in french. We'll have to bear with the useless subtitles -_-

To be fair Bleu, I had the same thought, and I mentioned this to my friend, but he told me that they two are actually fairly different in their themes and points. He also mentioned that this idea is nothing new, and existed long before Battle Royale, which is true.
Old Boy... that movie was too much for lil' ol' me. v_v Also, I will probably have someone give me flak for his, but I have never seen The Godfather. It is not that I do not want to, but it just never sounds good to watch whenever I remember it. My family always gives me crap when I mention that. X3

The Hunger Games is a painfully average Young Adult type novel anyway. It has a lot of the common cliches you can find anywhere else. Tournament, evil government, a whole bunch of attractive males being attracted to a single "normal" girl, and the normal girl being perfect in what she does, the same "normal" girl can do no wrong, etc etc.
While Oldboy is my favourite of all time, it gets extremely graphic, so I don't blame ya. Certainly not for the weak hearted. Oh, and don't worry. I haven't watched The Godfather trilogy either. I'll probably get around that some day.
I watched Citizen Kane recently. I see why it is constantly hailed as one of the greatest films of all time. What a brilliant movie~

To be fair, this concept has existed since long before Battle Royale. I've read the first two Hunger Games books, and they're pretty decent, but the very first thing I thought was, "Hey, this is just like Lord of the Flies."

As far as really good movies go, I think all of Tarantino's Movies are incredibly good. Besides Kill Bill, I really enjoyed Reservoir Dogs.
As a child, I kinda loved that one Pokemon Movie called Pokemon Heroes. I watched it with my best friend on VHS about 7 or 8 times :D
As for Japanese Movies: Battle Royale is probably my favourite movie here. Also, some of Takeshi Kitano's Movies such as Outrage and Zatoichi are enjoyable too.
I also like some modern movies, such as Kickass and Watchmen. My favourite here is Wanted though. I loved the plot and also James McAvoy's great acting. The Game is surprisingly good too ! :)
My favourite Anime movie is clearly End of Evangelion, closely followed by the Kara no Kyoukai Movies and Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal.
