I can't find the Pirarucu!

I have looked and looked, fished and fished, morning, noon, night, different baits, lures but I can hook a Pirarucu. I can't even see it. I see plenty of Gar and peaBACONBACONBACONBACON Bass. I searched to the left after entering the main lake, nothing, fished for hours by the waterfall, nothing. What am I doing wrong?

It's kind of rare, but keep looking in the same places again. It will come out eventually. I find it more common by the main lake so I would try there by the left side.

mmmmm.....BACON Bass. Now with 4x the bacon. I don't know if this matters, but did we ever determine whether ranking affects whether certain big fish appear?

I'm kind of ashamed to say that I'm an expert 1. I've caught a ton of fish, but I'm trying to get the last few quests done to get my Titan/infinity gear. I also have to share the game with my wife!

I caught my first pirarucu early in the game, the first time I went there. I found it by the south rock wall and caught it with originally hamstring/hunter/red Large bait. Just keep driving the boat along the wall in the lake between the entrance stream (sorry I am not there and do not remember the name of the streams) and the stream with the waterfall (stay in the lake)

Make sure you have talked to the person who requests that for a qwest. I believe it was only unlocked after I talked to the person who wanted it for a qwest, but that was so long ago (I can not remember for sure).

I finally noticed a difference between Alligator Gar and Pirarucu yesterday. I have hooked several and lost everyone. They seem to go from blue to red in an instant and I can't keep up. I'm using the heaviest gear I have, 2XL, and rainbow bait. I'm about ready to just move on for a while....

Pirarucu is definitely catchable with that rod/reel. The idea is to reel in short bursts. Philia's "New to Fishing Resort?" topic covers it in much more detail, and you would benefit from reading it.

It is in the Large Lake you come too not long after you get in the boat!! I catch all of mine to the left of the lake.. Almost all the way to the wall.. Most days I get at least 5-6 there!!!
