View Full Version : Ys I&II Chronicles playable on Vita?

I was browsing the list of psp games that are going to be playable on Vita, and didn't see Ys I&II Chronicles listed there. I was wondering if it is going to be made playable soon after launch, or should I wait to purchase it until later? It is the only psp Falcom game I have yet to buy.
I have also read that certain games not currently listed are still playable on the Vita. They have just not been certified 100% playable yet. Does anyone know anything about this?
Thanks for any information you might have.

We're just as curious as you. Hopefully it winds up on the second batch of playable games!

Thanks Tom! I may pick it up anyway since it's discounted on the PSN store. I'm sure I will be able to play it eventually. :-)
I kind of assumed this was something that was Sony's responsibility. I hope they are going to be true to their word and update it quickly.
I also hope it will be playable as well. If not, I guess I'm stuck waiting for CFW to make it happen, haha.
On an unrelated note, Tom. Is your avatar pic from Dinosaur, by any chance? Because it looks like an enemy pic I've seen.

I think he said Dinosaur is one of his all time favorite games, (or the favorite?) so that wouldn't be surprising. Might have to import Resurrection once the fan translation is done.
And it would be extremely disappointing if Chronicles didn't end up available on Vita at some point. I'd sacrifice Seven to get it up there :p

Yeah, that's the "Beckon" monster from Dinosaur: Resurrection. Which is not quite my favorite game of all time, nor even my favorite Falcom game (that honor probably goes to Xanadu Next), but is definitely up there. (:
Good job recognizing it!

I fully agree! Ys Seven is excellent. But Chronicles is arguably the best version of a certifiable classic.

Yeah, I just saw a post about that, good to see it works. I'll definitely be double-dipping on all three Ys games eventually.

I wish I could do that, but I'll be first-dipping on it at the same time as you guys, just on the PSP.

The game is playable on Vita.
I WOULD LIKE TO NOTE EVERYONE THAT THIS IS WRONG.
I just bought Ys Chronicles from the workaround through PS3, but Ys Chronicles shows as a compatible game and cannot be transferred to Vita.
It may technically work on Vita, but Sony has disabled the support for now.
I registered on this forum just to tell everyone this so no one gets wrong information and spend their money.

Thanks for the information. I'm not getting mine until the full launch date, so I was hoping that someone who purchased an early edition Vita would test this out.
That is really a bummer.

Ouch. Thank you indeed, Dilxedon! I'll post a correction on Twitter, as I previously noted there that it IS compatible.

Valkyria Chronicles 2 wasn't on the list and it's working on the PS Vita. Here's the picture that I found:

Wow, what an inaccurate list.
Wyrdwad
02-17-2012, 10:16 PM
I think the list is just to show which PSP games can be downloaded to the Vita directly from PSN at the moment -- not which PSP games are playable on the Vita.
In other words, it's a list of the PSP games you can access without having to use a PS3 to transfer them.
Unless we're talking about different lists!

If you use your Vita to connect to PSN, the PSP games on this list are the only ones you'll find. They're the only ones that are currently available for download through the Vita.
But if you use your PS3 to connect to PSN, you'll see *all* PSP games on there. In other words, you can download PSP games onto your PS3 that you can't download onto your Vita yet.
And once they're on your PS3, you can connect the PS3 and Vita together, and transfer those PSP games over to the Vita that way.
Ys I & II Chronicles is one such example. If you connect to PSN through the Vita, you won't see it there... but if you connect to PSN through the PS3, you will. And if you buy it and download it onto your PS3, you can then transfer it to your Vita and play it.
...Except it seems like some people can't seem to get it to work? That's the part that confuses me. (:

According to JeongBin on GameFAQs:
It took me a couple of tries. The transfer process seems a bit buggy at the moment. I got error codes the first couple of times I tried, but eventually it worked.
Of all the games I've tried, every single one that shows up in Content Manager has worked on the Vita. Almost all of them gave me error codes a few times before they transferred over.
I'd advise people to keep trying. If it isn't even showing up in Content Manager, though, that's a different story.

Found an explanation (http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=35212587&postcount=14227)of the problem with this game. Basically, something happened with the game that caused it's ID on the store to change (someone brought that up in a topic on here a while back). If you got the game BEFORE the ID changed, you can transfer it. If it you got it AFTER the ID changed you can't.
And by can't, I mean it doesn't show up in the Content Manager at all.

Don't think that's it, since we're getting reports of people who just bought it last week and are able to play it on their Vita.
At least, that seems to be the case...

Sony just needs to certify it and be done with it. Sounds like almost every PSP game works, the only ones I've heard about that actually seem to have emulation issues are the Phantasy Star Portable games. I'm sure there are others, but they seem few and far between.

agreed with your statement raguna XD
well, as for the psvita, im tempted to order it and maybe even try the games on it..as for the online download bit..bummer.. im completely ignorant how to do so on my psp or ps3 :s
main reason i wish to get it is for the latest ys game in progress of course.. other games are tad less appealing to me at the moment XD

what are the best settings for playing ys and trails in the sky on the vita
Chaosblade
03-02-2012, 12:46 PM
Color space is pointless, you don't need to change the right stick since none of the games will use it, so just try out bilinear filtering and see if it looks better. Should help with Ys Seven for sure.
Playing PSP games on the Vita causes some stretching/jagged lines and pixels, even with the upscaling that the Vita provides.
Bilinear filtering just adds a smoothing filter to get rid of aforementioned "jagged" appearance by slightly blurring the images:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/f1/Image-resample-sample.png
left: normal
middle: bilinear
right: bicubic
some like it, some prefer the original visuals.

Bilinear filtering also has the positive side effect of minimizing the dithering the PSP is known for in 3D games.

I disagree on color space. I actually think the color space option makes quite a lot of difference.
Did for Corpse Party, anyway. (:

I saw some comparisons after I posted it. Seems like it only makes a very noticeable or positive difference for a handful of games.

Really? I've been playing Corpse Party on my Vita lately.
Think I'll give it a try.
It is really irritating that this is not working on Vita right now.
Even more irritating because some CAN get it working and others can not and I would love to start a play through of all of the Ys PSP games and buy them all but like an idiot I bought this one and can do nothing with it now except stare at the cute bubble on my PS3.

I suppose it's a nice option for people without PSPs. But if you have a PSP, you should probably get the premium boxed version for the mindblowing soundtrack instead, right? I'm not interested in maps or other goodies myself, but I thought the YS Chronicles Premium is worthwhile for what must be Falcom JDK's crowning moment of glory.
Or is the Vita screen that much better for PSP games?
Wyrdwad
05-15-2012, 08:15 PM
Nah, the PSP screen does the game justice just fine IMHO. Plus, you can do TV-out with the PSP. And I agree, the soundtrack makes everything that much sweeter. ;)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MN6dM95IwmY 90% of the tracks are as good as this, so I wouldn't call this a favourite. It's a shame the CD didn't have the whole ost, but I guess that's normal these days. It has 26 tracks out of what, 50 something?
Wyrdwad
05-15-2012, 08:48 PM
Yeah, it was a soundtrack selections disc. Falcom offers their full soundtracks for sale internationally both on their website and via iTunes, so we didn't want to undercut them by releasing the whole thing alongside the game. That wouldn't be very partner-ly of us, after all. ;)

Be that as it may, it should be noted that To Make the End of Battle, Holders of Power, Final Battle, Palace of Destruction, First Step Towards Wars, Tension, Protectors and Tower of the Shadow of Death, to name but a few on the CD, would probably be the "star" track of most ordinary OSTs, if they weren't all together.
Anyway, sorry this is a bit off topic, but I claim marginal relevance in talking about the soundtrack as it is a reason to consider a premium box over the PSN version. Personally, I got this game 50% for the soundtrack and 50% for the bosses (having already bean beaten up by Oath), so for me the soundtrack IS Ys Chronicles to a large extent.

Morning Glow/Endless History? The Last Moment of the Dark (though it is one of the worst versions of that particular track it is still awesome!)? Where were those? :(
Well, apart from missing those two it is well chosen track list. Kinda difficult to choose much better if you have some 50 awesome tracks and you have to drop the half out.
